Intensive Outpatient Program

INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT TREATMENT

Psychotherapy and Experiential Treatment for Trauma and Addictions

Our intensive outpatient program (IOP) is appropriate for continuing care after residential treatment or suitable as a stand-alone treatment option. Our IOP provides support for those seeking recovery for trauma, anxiety, depression or substance abuse, as well as other behavioral health concerns and co-occurring conditions. We provide an environment that empowers our clients to create, refine and put into practice their own program of recovery.

We developed this program because many of those coming out of our residential program asked for it. They loved the connections, the healing, and the progress they experienced at Sabino Recovery and wanted the continuing support of the Sabino Way to ease their transition back into their pre-recovery lives. Research highlights the importance of continuing care – the longer anyone is in treatment, the better their chances of lasting recovery. Because we want to make sure our residents are successful, we opened this IOP to provide a transition for them, and for others that may not have had the benefit of residential program at Sabino Recovery.

What We Treat

Trauma

We have worked with a vast number of residents affected by PTSD, anxiety, depression, and addictions as a result of past trauma. In fact, we often work with people who have no addictions or had addictions in the past and are now sober – sometimes for many years. They realize their chances of living happily or remaining sober are challenged without addressing their trauma.

Addiction

At Sabino Recovery, we recognize addiction is complicated. For some, abusing alcohol and substances is a way of medicating difficult emotions, experiences, and memories that are often connected to past trauma. For others, a genetic component may predispose them to develop an addiction. Only by understanding the core issues driving the addiction are we are able to effectively treat alcohol abuse and addiction.

Co-occurring

Mental illnesses, like depression, often go hand-in-hand with drug and alcohol abuse. According to the National Alliance for Mental Illness, one-third of people with a mental disorder, such as depression, also abuse drugs or alcohol. Regardless of the cause, the result is that many find themselves struggling, not only with addiction, but also with co-occurring disorders such as depression and anxiety.

We are uniquely qualified, trained and staffed to address these diagnoses. Unlike other programs, that were founded to treat addiction; our program was created to address trauma and other behavioral issues such as depression, and anxiety. Alcohol and substance abuse are vigorously treated as well as the core mental health issues driving the negative behavior.

  • Sexual trauma

The Sabino Recovery Difference

Clinical Excellence, Healing Environment

In addition to our Masters Level therapist, our Outpatient Program offers many extras that other programs do not. Additionally, our program sessions take place in a homelike setting with comfortable rooms on a campus surrounded by 110 acres of peaceful and lush desert bordering the Coronado National Forest.

 Experiential Therapies

Our program takes full advantage of the beautiful location – we include bi-weekly Adventure or Equine Therapy at our own ropes course and horse stables on the property. These modalities are an important adjunct to our other group and individual therapies as they help reduce impulsivity, improve focus and attention and develop problem-solving skills. Additionally, experiential therapies have mood-enhancing benefits that can be very helpful to individuals with depressive and anxiety disorders, as well as assist with learning how to employ healthier expressions of emotion. They also help to increase the motivation to be an active part of one’s own life, which is the most necessary skill for a successful recovery.
