Sam and Dr. Elkon discuss the relationship between pain and anxiety and how the two can be brought on by the other.

Dr. Andrea Elkon, PH.D.

Dr. Andrea Elkon is an independently-practicing licensed clinical psychologist, based in Atlanta, GA. She specializes in working with athletes and active adults; who are struggling with the emotional and physical effects of injury and illness; as well as anxiety, performance issues, perfectionism, and eating concerns. Dr. Elkon believes in a multidisciplinary approach to care, and that mental health is a critical component of overall wellness. Prior to transitioning into independent practice, Dr. Elkon served as the Director of Behavioral Health Services for Alliance Spine and Pain Centers. In that capacity, she developed a behavioral health program to offer a broader range of services to clients struggling with chronic pain and other chronic health conditions. She also spent the first decade of her career in public mental health, both in the State of Georgia hospital system and the Department of Veteran’s Affairs. Dr. Elkon is a graduate of the University of Virginia, where she completed her Ph.D. and Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology. Prior to earning these degrees, she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree from Haverford College and completed a research fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Elkon is a member of the American Psychological Association, Division of Sports, Exercise and Performance Psychology; as well as a member of the American Academy of Pain Medicine and the Georgia Psychological Association.
